Dutch Ruppersberger Considers Running for Senate

I received the following email today:

Senator Sarbanes Decides not to Seek Re-Election
Dear Brian,
As you may know, Senator Paul Sarbanes has decided not to seek re-election to the US Senate in 2006. I am seriously considering running for the Senate and I'm now discussing this with my family, friends and supporters.

I value your input. Please take a few moments today to let me know your thoughts. You may use my website's feedback form, or reply to this email. I will post a sampling of the comments on the website.

Running for Senate will require a much more ambitious statewide campaign. We'll need more of everything. More dedicated supporters, more organizers, more volunteers, more resources, more money.

If I can count on you in this effort, please let me know.  You can volunteer or contribute today, or pledge your support to help later in the campaign.

In case you missed it, please visit my website to read my press release on Senator Sarbanes' decision not to seek re-election

Thanks for your tireless energy and support. I cannot do this without you!

Dutch

The email had a bunch of links giving people the opportunity to let his supporters know how they'd feel about his running and volunteer, ect.

Let me just say that Dutch is a great down to Earth guy who is really in touch with real people.  I worked on his reelection campaign and served as an intern for him and he always treated me with respect and judged my suggestions to him on their merits rather than on who I was.  Also, his Operation Hero Miles program (which got national attention) was a creative program that helped the troops and also improved the Democratic Party's image.

Dutch Ruppersberger is?

On another note, it's always seemed to me that Maryland produces more politicians with bizarre names than any other state does. Dutch Ruppersberger fits right in.

Well, if you had visited that link he provided, you would know that Dutch Ruppersberger is the U.S. representative for Maryland's second congressional district.

And the former County Executive of Baltimore County.

I thought most people would know given the political junky nature of this site.  However, i've got a MD-centric mind and should have thought many out of staters wouldn't know him.  Sorry for not mentioning his background in Congress and as County exec.

In Maryland Many Dems (none / 0)

In Maryland there are many Democratic Politicians who are Republicans in disgiuse.  It is a crazy place.  Lots of middle aged men with huge bellies and red necks....calling themselves Democrats.  Visit Annapolis sometime they infest the place.

who's glenn ivey? (none / 0)

I lived in MD for many years and followed Dem politics closely. I've been away for a few years now and so amw wondering who Glenn Ivey is. (I have the same question about Charles Larson but his placement in the poll here would suggest is irrelevant.)

Re: who's glenn ivey? (none / 0)

Ivey is the State's Attorney for Prince Georges County and is very popular there.  He's primarily been mentioned as Lt. Gov. candidate for O'Malley so as to racially and geographically balance O'Malley's ticket.
