Steele: Rove's Money More Important Than His Possible Treason

Last week, Lt. Governor and Senate candidate Michael "Principles? What Principles" Steele (R-MD) refused to condemn a fundraiser held by his boss, Gov. Ehrlich, at a an all-white country club that discriminates against African-Americans like himself.  After all, they were helping his boss raise money for his campaign.

This week, I found out that Karl Rove will be hosting a fundraiser for Michael Steele's Senate campaign.  I guess among Republicans, money is more important that principles. Why else would Michael Steele be willing to receive fundraising help, heck even be willing to be in the same room, with a man who disclosed the identity of an undercover CIA agent.  I sure hope someone gets a photo of Steele and Rove together so that Steele's opponent can run a campaign ad showing Steele hanging out with someone who will hopefully be a known criminal by the election.

Anyway, here's the email I received from the Maryland Democratic Party alerting me to Michael Steele's alarming relationship with Karl Rove:

MICHAEL STEELE, WANT TO BE A LEADER?

CALL ON KARL ROVE TO COME CLEAN,

STOP THE WHITE HOUSE STONEWALL

"Why won't Karl Rove come clean about his breach of national security and his violation of a government employee's personal privacy and safety?," asked Terry Lierman, Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party, echoing concerns expressed in the media and by citizens across Maryland and the United States during the past week.  "The Bush administration is not talking straight to the American people.   Why is the President's top political advisor afraid to tell the truth?"

Mr. Lierman called on Maryland Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele, a likely candidate for the United States Senate, to call on Rove to "come clean" and to end the "White House stonewall that is seriously undermining the public's trust in its government."

"Michael Steele has the opportunity to show courage, leadership and integrity.  He should demand that Karl Rove put an immediate end to his evasive, elusive tactics in the face of a serious and disturbing breach of national security," said Lierman, noting that Steele is holding a campaign event with Rove at the end of July which would be a "perfect opportunity to address the situation candidly and responsibly."

"Michael Steele should be concerned, alarmed and embarrassed at the prospect of featuring Rove at an event."

Why not?  It works on Kos.  Sounds like a good idea just to tell if anyone is reading this.

Does Bush support treason? (none / 0)

It looks like Bush is going to stand by his man.

For superlative and extensive coverage of this story Digby is on fire.

The Left Coaster has Talking Points for Treason: Part II that are indispensible.

The Bush sockpuppets at the L.A. Times have very thin coverage of The Plame Affair with a big focus on the legal technicalities of the statute.

The O.C. Register reports Republican "anxiety" about "a major politcal problem" Republicans anxiously watching Rove saga.

It's a great day to be a Democrat (none / 0)

Get your day off to a good start and visit Bilmon, Better Warm up old Sparky and indulge the fantasy of Fitzgerald filing espionage charges against Rove.

Bilmon conceeds that Rove will never do hard time, but it sure is a pleasant thought Rove could be treated as harshly as John Walker Lindh and that justice might actually be done.
